Overview

Becoming a Full Time Firefighter, Part-Time Call Firefighter or Part-Time Call Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the Southborough Fire Department can lead to a life of rewarding public service along with many opportunities for personal and professional growth. Joining our department may be the first step in the pursuit of a career in the fire service or prehospital medical profession. Or it can simply be a way to serve others and the community.

Those interested in becoming either Full-Time or Part-Time members of our department must recognize the time, commitment, and basic requirements of the positions.

Minimum Requirements for Both Full-Time and Part-Time Employment

  • Emergency Medical Responder or EMT Certification
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Valid Driver's License

Additional Recommended Credentials for Full-Time Employment

  • EMT-Advanced Certification
  • Firefighter I and II Certification

When the department does have a vacancy in either our full-time or part-time roster, those that meet the above are asked to participate in a selection process that consists of a resume review and an oral board interview. Those considered for employment must successfully complete a criminal and driving record check, and a physical examination.
