Contact the three major credit bureaus: Equifax 800-685-6285, Experian(TRW) 888-397-3742, Trans Union 800-680-7289
Ask credit bureaus for names and contact information for all fraudulently obtained creditors. Ask credit bureau to remove all fraudulent entries.
Contact all creditors and credit card companies with whom identifying data may have fraudulently been used (a credit inquiry on a credit card company)
Be prepared to complete affidavits for each creditor.
Identify all known fraudulent accounts on police reports.
Contact the Registry Of Motor Vehicles to determine if a duplicate license was issued in your name. If not, ask that a fraud alert flag be placed on the license file. (duplicate not allowed flag)
Change your license number.
Do not knowingly pay all or partial amounts of fraudulent bills
Maintain a log of all contacts with financial institutions and law enforcement agencies and the names of those with whom you spoke
Call the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-IDTHEFT
Victims may receive varying levels of assistance from the agencies listed based on the nature and type of the fraud experienced.
